Principal Carstens Family Funds Paradise Valley, AZ Experience: Deb Carstens splits her time between Paradise Valley, Arizona, and Washington, DC. Upon retirement in 2000 from a professional career of land development in Telluride, Colorado, Carstens moved to Arizona and became politically and philanthropically engaged. She currently manages Carstens Family Funds, which is active in southern California, Arizona, and Colorado. Grants are typically awarded to nonprofits that offer educational scholarships or have a strong focus on leadership opportunities for girls and women. Elimination of child-sex-trafficking is a current focus. In Washington, DC, Carstens serves on the advisory boards of the National Museum of Women in the Arts and Innocents at Risk. She belongs to the Marine Corp Scholarship Foundation, Capital Speakers Club, and the D.C. Police Foundation. In Arizona, she is a member of Arizona Women’s Forum, Arizona State University President’s Club, Women and Philanthropy, as well as several other community organizations. Carstens’ 1972 bachelor’s degree is from San Diego State University; in 2004 she was honored with the university’s Distinguished Alum award. A world traveler, she has visited all seven continents and lived for three years in Geneva, Switzerland. Her daughter Lindsay and two granddaughters, who live in Virginia, bring particular joy. |
